sadly I think it is permanent... you saw the votes when the individual classes got to vote on coming back together. there were more schools for a split than there originally were
the best people can hope for is that after reclassification this year, things look more sensible (32 team brackets in certain classes become 16, etc.) and fair. maybe we go back down to 4 nonselect and 3 select classes, but everyone likes saying they made the playoffs
