bottom line is it would make people that don't make a lot of money think twice about huge purchases.
Which is fair in a sense. I don't think cars should fall under this. But everyday items would make it more level.

I wonder what % of income tax is not reported or paid
With sales tax, it's harder to avoid paying tax(minus internet purchases obviously)
I think it would benefit the honest taxpayers more than the dishonest
