Seriously, I spent 3 weeks there, and aside from tongue and cheek stuff, I never had an issue.Just do what this poster says, and the French will be pleasant to be around.
And if you really think about it, Americans are almost without question the culture least patient with foreigners. If some guy who speaks maybe 200 words of English comes to visit, we all get pissed that there is a language barrier. You won't even find that in France. Even trying to speak our own language pisses us off if you don't do it without being able to understand them the first time. We need to look a bit in the mirror on how we treat tourists before we get pissed at the French.

I had a group of schoolgirls point and laugh at my clothes, but I actually do dress like shite.
