Depending on the state you are from you can buy any long gun and ammo in Texas.
I'm working in Illinois and have purchased an 870 and various ammo -all legal because I'm from Georgia and bought an out of state hunting license. Some states still require you to be a resident of an adjoining state which is no longer federal law. I believe you have to buy from a gun store and not an individual. All handguns have to go thru an ffl

Where are you from, for one thing. Secondly, in what state did you buy the out of state lic and what does that have to do with transferring firearms?
