I have an old pc laptop. If I want to wipe it and install linux where would be the best place to read how to do this?

Just go here, download the 32 or 64 bit Cinnamon version, then burn it to a DVD. Pop it in, power up and follow the prompts.
Installing Linux is easier than installing Windows these days.
