I think the tenure system has lead to the overall downfall of college academics. What incentive does a tenured professor have to really do anything? They bust arse to achieve tenure status, but upon gaining it tend to sit back and just do enough to get by. Right now the pond is overstocked with those professors and those TAs who end up teaching the class are still students themselves. Do away with tenure and the previously mentioned support staff fat, then lets talk about having athletics do more for academics. The academic side of the university really needs to help itself first.
