The boat and $10K engine is usually enough incentive to keep the trailer operable and safe.

True. That was my only concern. My neighbor's car was hit by a trailer and she got pretty beaten up by it. It just makes me nervous with some of the irresponsible people driving around. 
But yeah, the people I know with boats keep their trailers in good shape anyway. I guess we shall see!
