am I suppose to feel bad that she felt embarrassed and had to jump through hoops?

If i had it my way food stamp cards would be huge and it would be a totally humiliating experience to use them. It would then push people to get off as fast as possible. I see the need for a safety net to help people up when they fail but it should be a last resort and something that leads to behavior changes. IMO nothing is better for behavior changes than embarrassment.

I think the people who abuse programs like this wouldn't be embarrassed one bit. They've got plenty of other reasons to be ashamed and don't seem to care.

Its people like the chick in the article who'd be embarrassed and it looks like she was already pretty motivated to get out of her situation.
