It's the short game vs the long game. With Love you're very good immediately, though not as good as Miami in 2011. They'd be #3 in the East. I would not put them as the favorite to win it all. That team cannot beat SAS, OKC, or even the LAC in my opinion. They don't have anyone besides LBJ that knows how to play D at a championship caliber level.
I suppose Chris Paul and Doc Rivers can protest and that would take them out of the mix. And the SAS could have this precipitous drop off due to age. I don't know what could stop OKC in that case besides injury. I just think a lot would have to go right for the Love deal to pay off immediately, which is the entire appeal of it all.
I wouldn't be disappointed if the trade didn't happen. Frankly Lebron winning with their current cast makes for the better narrative anyway.
I say this believing the trade will absolutely happen. I just don't think the results will match the storybook script like a lot of others believe it will.
