I agree, I have just already been to Venice and just looking for something different.

If you want to see Florence/Firenze without really seeing much of it, because a weekend is not enough time, take an early train there.
Or rent a Fiat and see the small villages and countryside within a weekend's driving distance.
Train transportation in Italy is slower and less reliable than what you get in Germany, Austria, France and the UK, so, keep that in mind. Unless you take the express train, the train in Italy makes lots of stops at small towns.
There's probably an express train that runs between Venice and Florence/Firenze.
