What's the Smallest Amp With Which a Bassist Could Get Away Gigging?

I'm looking to start playing again and would hate to buy a practice amp only to need to shortly upgrade again.
So what would be the most inexpensive middle ground solution between something just to practice with a band with but with the slight chance of gigging down the road?

I play through a genz - benz 1-15 combo. 3-400 watts. It's versatile and lightweight, but plenty of power for pretty much any venue. Has a horn, and a convenient XLR out. EBay, yo. Got it for like $450 new. Think they're about $800 list.

Technically you could run DI with a bass and a cable
