Normally I tell people they are better off with a high-end point and shoot to learn on. They cost less but still offer the same settings a SLR does, it'll give you a good learning experience so you can figure out what features you want on an SLR if you do decide to move up.

But if you only paid $600, rock what you have, that's a nice deal.
