This is hindsight. How does a bystander know that there's no weapon? Maybe it's concealed.
People have gotten killed this way. They try to intervene, but they end up getting shot or stabbed.

No, there's no law that says you're obligated to risk your own life breaking up a fight. There's no way I'd get involved in something like that if I had a family and kids, etc.
Being that I'm single with no children and have been a victim of violent crime myself, I probably would've done something. However, the bystanders shouldn't be judged because they didn't intervene; there's no way they could have known what the fight was about or if they guy may have had a weapon, etc.
