Unless you're staying at the King Edward downtown, you're not going to find a lot of things within walking distance.
I don't recommend the Fondren District. It does have a Fondren After 5 thing, but it's not worth living in that neighborhood.
Flowood, Madison, Ridgeland, and Reservoir Brandon are all nice, but I can't think of a lot of things within walking distance.

Does the Renaissance have a hotel? Been a while since I've been in that area, but I remember it is really nice with some restaurants he could sit at and drink.
