We really didn't change a whole lot of personnel last year. Ellis wasn't retained. Smith was injured in preseason.
We brought in Butler, but he didn't play a snap. Lewis and Vacarro were the real key.
And our personnel wasn't the biggest factor for our defense's performance in 12, but it was how our personnel was used (for things they weren't good at) and a confusing, convoluted system where responsibilities weren't clear.
So you saw a real turnaround when Ryan came in because he built his defense around what the players he had were good at.
Carolina isn't changing systems. I don't see that type of improvement.
