And you aren't able to comprehend what I am saying, obviously. I am not talking about what happens if we lose TWO. I am asking what happens if we lose ONE and there is no good 3rd option. Will the coaches then cut back the offense in trying to protect the ONE good option that we have? Knowing that a QB does not have a solid backup can cause coaches to be more cautious in how they call the game. Keeping max protect in more of the time. Rolling him out where he is away from defenders. Not having him run as much. Stuff like that. Just wondering how a coach would change the game plan knowing that if the one guy they have goes down, the season is over.
To those of us who grew up in the sixties we can all recall Pat Screen and Nelson Stokely getting injured right before the Ole Miss and Bama weekends with Captain Easy Billy Ezell and Billy Broussard taking the helm. Ezell did have his moment of glory vs Ole Miss in 1964 ( ala Jennings vs ARkansas) but still a scary thought. I have never liked the option QB - OK if ahead and controlling the game, but tough if you gotta come from behind and drive length of field in fourth quarter and your starter and maybe backup are out.
