LBJ was a deeply flawed man. But he did not flinch from doing the right thing when the right thing had to be done that summer.

That pretty much sums him up. After JFK was assassinated, Richard Russell told his fellow segregationists in Congress, that they could have beaten him on civil rights, but ultimately, they weren't going to be able to beat LBJ on civil rights, because he understood power, and he wasn't afraid to use it.

Yep, and he DID get those n*****rs to vote democrat for the next 50 years just like he said he would.
