I think from scratch is what people are failing to see.

Not too many people on that list walked into a situation like Miles did. That is no knock on Miles, just apples to oranges with so many factors.

Meyer, Shaw, and Petrino walked into pretty good situations on that list.

Finally someone sees this. Given the criteria I don't even think that Saban would be my first choice nowadays.

How many over the years walked into a similar situation as Miles and fluorished? Answer. Very few
Other than Jimmy at Miami and Shaw at Stanford,I'm
at a loss. Both of whom left or will leave for the NFL.

Miles had no control of what he inherited.

Why couldnt he do as well as anyone else starting from scratch? And he's getting better every year. How many game mgt mistakes did he make last year?
You know like trying a 55 yarder with your OL as your defense.

Obviously,% wise, its much easier to build from scratch than maintain a high level program. In fact, maintaining anything in the top 5% for 9 straight years is excellent leadership. Look at your own business or school. At whatever company u work for, go ahead and take over the region of the top performing Regional and see just how easy a transition it is "to maintain". And after 9 str8 years of kicking butt give all the credit to the guy before u for laying down the freaking foundation back in 05.

One last thing. When did Saban officially quit and when was National Signing day that year? How many recruits did Les lose while getting his family and coaching staff situated on the run?
Does anyone remember all the lies Saban told LSU, the players and recruits and then quit with no notice in January in the heat of recruiting season.
Saban did leave the program in good shape but its not like Miles just walked in and sat down behind a desk and won all these games.
