It's literally impossible in south Louisiana. He would absolutely have to have a pump to cycle the water or else it WILL turn into an algae filled mosquito incubator.

Yep. And even then, the water would have to be chlorinated.

My salt cell went out over the winter (unbeknownst to me), and I started to get algae spores all over the place as soon as it warmed up.
