I love when online faux outrage gets bit in the arse. Good for the parents for taking advantage of people that can't wait to be part of the topic of the week.

Truth. Maybe Scruffy is just cynical. Each of these stories appear weekly and Scruffy just doesn't care. There are people out there who have these same problems, but they don't go and seek attention through the internet.
It's like doing something incredibly selfless and then going and proclaiming to everyone you know how you helped someone out.
It just irks Scruffy.
