When Max Jordan was in HS he spoke like a Shakespearean actor. When he won a state legislative seat he talked like a farmer who just fell off the hay wagon.

Cliff Aucoin was a speech professor who had perfect diction. When he ran for Mayor of New Iberia he took "How to talk stupid" lessons from Suzanne Whitaker to win the race.

When Edwin Edwards was interviewed on national network TV he lost his Cajun accent. Within the borders of La. he had the accent.

John Kennedy talks like a friggin' moron from a Lil' Abner play yet he graduated from an Ivy League college. I doubt if he spoke that way to his professors.

People in La. whine about Bobby Jindal talking too fast. To me, he's slow as molasses in January. If you want to see the average La. voter, go spend an hour at the DMV.
