re: Happy Birthday, Pistol Pete!

Sad to say but there was a dark side of The Pistol, too, one that not many knew about. His older brother, Ronnie, was the mgr at the old Tony Moran's Restaurant on the river, my best friend a bar tender there, so when a few of us would drop in for drinks, we'd spot Pete there on occasion. Every now & then, late after a home game, we'd see him sitting alone in the corner, a bottle of Jack Daniels as his friend & we'd watch him knock off the whole bottle in one setting. And then get up & play a NBA game the next nite.He most definitely wore his body out but the greatest LSU athlete I've seen in my 60+ yrs.
