This argument gets old. If property taxes go up, I doubt my landlord is going to eat it because he's a nice guy.

The argument is not old, raise the parish sales tax which would affect all equally. Property taxes go after targeted groups, fact, period.
And just to humor your assertion. Commercial leases typically have 5 years contracts, larger entities might have 10-15. The property owner (landlord) cannot pass on the raise to the tenant.
