I studied abroad there for 45 days, vacationed for a week.
Mapenze beach resort was awesome. Check out Stonetown in Zanzibar. Stayed 2 nights at Selous game reserve (largest). We had our own fancy tent we slept in that was guarded by masabi tribesman. It's a beautiful country. I'm jealous.
You also might want to check out Bagamoyo, a small beach town an hour or so north of Dar Es Salaam.

Zanzibar should now be visited with caution. If you check State Dept (and British counterpart) you'll see the warnings. I'd still go but certainly be cautious about crowds, demonstrations, and be aware of Muslim extremists activities.
