Sounds like it could be a gluteus minimus injury. It's a small muscle around the high hamstring/low glute area. Can be a real pain to stretch and can be a long term injury. Only way it heals is to rest it for an extended period of time.

Or maybe piriformis? Try foam rolling it out ... and sports doc I see when needed said anything that persists for 2+ weeks without any improvement should be checked out.
