Question about buying note 3 out of contract.

I have verizon and my contract goes out in several months. I learned today that verizon doesn't offer the contract upgrade 90 days prior to expiration like they used to. They pitched the Edge program to me, but that doesn't sound like the route I want to take.
They also offered that I trade in my iphone 5 64gb for $250 and buy the note 3 at full price for $700 plus tax.
I'm thinking about buying one off of eBay and then selling my iphone it keeping it, but the unlocked phones worry me. I'm not sure if I will get the right thing.
Does anybody have any experience buying a new phone for verizon off of eBay? Any help is appreciated.

Wait till the note 4 comes out, they'll be plenty of 3's for sale, mine included.

That doesn't answer my question. I need a new phone quick. Not a used one or a phone 5 months from now. Just would like helpful info on buying new phones off of eBay.

Try craigslist
ETA: that 64GB 5S will command a lot more than $295

To answer your question, you need to make sure that the seller specifically states that his unlocked Note will work with CDMA carriers. Main CDMA carriers include Verizon and Sprint. If it's a GSM phone, it will only work with GSM carriers (AT&T and T-Mobile are the main ones). Will help to include "CDMA" in your searches on eBay and elsewhere.

They are fricking you bad with the offer of only 250 for that phone. That phone is worth, at a minimum, 550.

Check Amazon and box stores like BestBuy, Costco etc before you pay that to a Verizon store.
ETA: Swappa is good too. I have sold phones there with no issues.

My bad. I read the several months part and didn't pay attention.

Just a 5, not a 5s.

Thanks. That's what I was worried about, I didn't know the different bands or frequencies the carriers use.
