ETA: many of these people experience psychological issues where food intake increases dopamine in their systems.....they feel better when they eat, so the addiction is born.
Take away the mental issues for some of them, then they could find it easier to eat properly.
That said, not all of them suffer depression and such and are straight up slugs, but life is complicated fellas.

I'm pretty sure this is true for everyone.
