It is true. Mythbusters tested it and found texting to be WAY more dangerous. At least drunks are trying to pay attention to the road and drive straight, which is usually good enough unless they're hammered. Texters aren't even paying attention to the road.

To lsupride87 - If the driver was legally intoxicated, then, my dear sir, he is TPOS. You might consider yourself to be a great sort of fellow, but if you did the same thing, you, too, would be a TPOS. It's common knowledge that drinking and driving can lead to fatal accidents. This guy decided to try it, anyway. His attitude was "To hell with anyone else who happened to be on the road" at the same time.

ANYONE texting and driving is the same POS. They are NOT paying attention to what they are doing... DRIVING A CAR... A 55-65 mph lethal machine that can do serious damage to ANYBODYS LIFE............. THINK ABOUT IT............

I am not a fan of drivers who text while they drive, but I think this study probably was result oriented. That is, they wanted to condemn texting and they thought it would be clever to compare it to DWI.
I do not see whether the study shows how much greater, if at all, texting is in CAUSING ACCIDENTS than drunk drivers. Nor, do I see whether anyone "studied" whether any of the texters had or had not consumed any alcohol before driving the car and texting while doing so.
I'm not sure if you are tying to suggest DWI's really aren't that bad, afterall. Gee, we don't seem to care when people text while they drive and it's "more dangerous" than DWI. Are you hinting that we ought to be more tolerant of drunk drivers? If you are, then you are an idiot.

If I cause a fatal accident because I decided to text while driving instead of paying attention to the highway, then - you are correct - I would be a POS. Drunk or texting or not, if I decide to try to pass on a double yellow line as I'm rounding a curve or climbing a hill - only to kill someone in an oncoming car - then, I would be a POS. If I decided to drive 70 mph through the Wal Mart parking lot without regard to any pedestrians, I would be a POS. So, too, is the driver in this case: if he was drunk, then he is a POS.

I don't get the whole "no one can judge me but god."
Uh no dickhead, we all can and will judge you.

Where is the line drawn? Do you have to kill someone to be a POS or just drive after a few drinks?

Result oriented? Why would they want to prove texting was worse. The Mythbusters actually drank and drove and texted and drove, and it wasn't even close, even compared to very high bac.
