People on here can say what they want about education, being poor, or whatever, but if you haven't served then I feel sorry for you...
It is an experience that only those of us who have served can ever really explain to each other. I've seen and done more than most people will in life and will walk away with stories and friendships that normal civilians won't experience.
I once thought I was "too smart" for this job, but when you're actually in the inside, you quickly learn how much intelligence you actually need for a lot of these jobs. A lot of the greatest people in history have had military backgrounds, so I guess that says something.
I have an education, no debts and continue to save money, further my education and serve my country. If you being the president of a corporation or a process operator, is what you chose to do and makes you happy, then congrats to you. Just remember that this country is free for a reason, and continues to be, because of the great people who serve. Your position in life doesn't make you any better than me or the next man.
And whether a person was poor or well off, I don't really see the problem. Either way they are doing the job that you were too pussy to do.

Look I am all for our troops and support...but if you haven't stepped into a hot zone and done some combat, or worked in a hot combat zone, then sit the frick down and hush.
Six week of regular ole gi boot camp and then sitting state side isn't a brave task. So I don't want to hear it.
I have two friends who joined. One is combat in Afghanistan now. The other does training and color guard stuff state side. I worry about one. Don't worry about the other.

Just hit 24 years (9 active the rest reserves) to include a year in Iraq and Afghanistan and I would not change a thing.
Some of the brightest people I've met in my life were military, also some of the dumbest.
You either have been "in" or you haven't, its simple.
