The Tea Party is here to stay, I'm sorry to break it to you.
People who have aligned themselves with Tea Party causes may decide to disassociate themselves from that label, but do you think they will give up what they believe is right? Their true political ideologies?
The Tea Party is not a political party. The Tea Party is a movement. How does a movement begin? Well, like the abolitionist movement, it begins with fervor. When you have fervor, you have some people who are willing to do irrational things. The abolitionists went on killing sprees in order to get their point across. But guess what? In the end, they won.
When a large portion of people becomes that fervent... and that portion is not organized via memberships or spokespeople... then you will have incidences that aren't becoming of the movement and which are easy to paint with a broad brush.
But don't think you will kill the movement. Oh no, quite the contrary. Rather, you increase its resolution and determination. You may change a political ideology with ideas, but you never will change it by attacking the people who make it up. You're seriously hurting your cause if you think otherwise.
They may move to the Libertarian party, they may continue to fight the PR war as Tea Partyists, or they may manifest as something else entirely... but they aren't going anywhere. And they will cease to continue voting for R's... you can bet on that.
I will just end by saying it is absolutely sickening that this race will be decided based on this incident before the facts are known... no matter who was involved. I personally find it hard to believe Chris made the call, even though that is what is being portrayed.
