My grandfather wasn't on Bataan, but he was a POW in Stalag Luft IV. Russian forces were closing in on the Germans, so they had to evacuate all prison camps. Marched over 600 miles in blizzard conditions across Germany for 3 months. Many died from illness, ones that didn't dropped half their weight and suffered permanent injuries. My grandfather survived it and WWII, but died before I was born.

They were truly great men, and I thank God I have never had to go through anything like my grandfather did.

ETA: it was called the Black March

Thanks for the story.

Again, doing this March has been one of the highlights of my military career and I hope to be able to do it again.

Can't stress enough how great of an honor it was to do this event in memory of all those Soldiers who suffered.
