re: Minimum wage boost blocked in the Senate

I'm a bit torn about the issue of minimum wage. On the one hand, I can see how it messes with free market principals. But, on the other hand I can see how if a person has to work 40-70 hours a week and still not have enough to live that would be an issue as well. I'm at the point where I consider the minimum wage a necessary evil where I would like the level to be set high enough to be superior to living off of welfare. As it is right now, if I could just sit on my arse all day and make nearly the same amount as working, why work?
And yeah, I know teenagers are going to lose some jobs, but at this point most people who are working minimum wage jobs aren't teenagers but are trying to support families.

Have anything to back up that unsubstantiated claim? Because what I've read shows the majority of minimum wage earners are young people working part time. If you're supporting a family on minimum wage you're pretty much living out of a dumpster.

You are attempting to fix the wrong problem.

Welfare should be a problem for society to address, not the employer. Tax the employer more across the board if we think welfare benefits are not adequate, but don't increase his costs at the employment side. We will just have more unemployment as a result. If someone wants to work for just a few dollars then we should let them.
