I guess I just compare it to me growing up never going on a vacation where a babysitter tags along so my parents can go do their thing. You know, a family vacation.

Do they need to go get shitfaced or something?

I mean we are at the beach here

Not really. Taking care of small kids not their own isn't really anyone's definition of a "vacation". They are working and should be paid something. Maybe not the full rate they get for normal sitting, but something.

Trust me, that is what I know growing up as well. Even though my parents were poor, my dad would save up during the year so that we could take family vacations.

But if you can afford it, I could see how bringing a nanny along would be helpful.

They aren't taking care of little kids 24/7. They are mainly there for us to go out to dinner/bars at night when the kids are sleeping. They are welcome to do their own thing most of the day

Gotcha...I guess it would really depend on how much time you expected them to be taking care of the kids on the trip.

I would pay her $100 per day, plus pay for her trip.
Also give her a per diem if she takes the kids on outings.

How's your babysitter paid normally, by the hour or by the day?

If it's by the hour, just pay her hourly rate when she is on duty and then cover her food and gas.

Sure. But, it's nice being able to get the kids cleaned up and let them watch a movie while parents go out to eat and relax with each other.

It's not like the nanny is full time care taker. They are just there to help for relief and grown ups can do grown up things while on vacation too.

Kids aren't going to have daddy issues because I didn't watch Iron Man with them for the 3rd time on Tuesday night.

Nanny is getting paid regardless. Shelling out a little extra to bring her along is a win-win for everybody.

We have about 3 sitters that we use regularly and they are fighting over who gets to come to the beach with us this year.....all of them know they won't be getting paid
