Doesn't matter, your real fruit (i.e., next year) will come from the canes that sprout from the roots this year. As long as the root is alive, you are golden.
Also, the roots will spread, so you may want to put an underground barrier if you want to keep them contained.

Just order 2 variety of cherry bushes from them, and some seedless concord grapes. Getting a couple dozen blueberry bushes in 2 varieties from a place up in Michigan as well. I'll be juicing like hell next yr.
Good luck. Cherries and grapes do not do well in the gulf states. The plants may make it, but chances for fruit are unfortunately, negligible. Blueberries, on the other hand, produce very well if planted in good soil (lots of peat moss) and watered regularly.
ETA - What variety of blueberries? You want rabbiteye or southern highbush. Concern coming from Michigan would be northern variety, which would not thrive here.

Not sure to be honest. This lady has a 25 acre blueberry farm and raises I think, 8 species on it. She was gonna send me 2 varieties that she thinks will do well here, one for jams, the other for eatin.

2 of the satsumas for $50. I think she said they were 1.5 years old
So you saying to clip the ends of the branches that are drooping down?

Great! Prepare the soil well with lots of peat and organic material, and you should have loads of berries for years to come. Good luck!

Best blue berries in this area are the rabbiteyes. Get more than one variety for heavier fruiting. We sell Tiff Blue, Premier, and Climax mostly. They like well draining soil.
Apache is a good blackberrie. Ouichta is another good one we started carrying that is more of a bush and will produce fruit similiar to apache.
Tiger 79, you sell citrus?

Are the seeds smaller? That is my only complaint with Apache. They are just too big/tough to chew. Makes eating cobbler - or fresh - a little harder than it should be.

Im not sure on that... can't recall. I would imagine they are close. Good point.
