Want to take my 3yo son camping for the first time but don't know anywhere close. Ideally it would be a place that I can take him fishing too.
Easy place that is kid friendly obviously. Probably go for just one night to see how he likes it. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Not looking to drive too far either.

Stick to the State Parks for an easy trip. They all have playgrounds when the kid gets bored. Most tent sites have water and electricity.
LA State Parks
Close to NOLA, you have Tickfaw, Bayou Segnette, & Fontainbleau.
If you want to drive a little further, Lake Fausse Point is one of the finest in the state.
For saltwater beach fishing, Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, MS is probably the closest drive.

This is good answer. Less than an hour from NOLA, they have primitive camping, or hook ups...
They have other things like a wave pool and water slides, as well as it being close to fishing. I wouldn't beach fish, I'd just drive two minutes to Bayou Caddy or a bit further to Ansley and fish off the piers.
A beach day is nice in front of the park though. BSL for dinner.
