I'm telling you, he's a damn wizard. But more like the White Wizard than the Grey Wizard.

He's a bean counter who fires players without a courtesy call and is just fixing previous mistakes.

Big decisions: Linebackers Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne are both scheduled to receive big roster bonuses in 2015 that could force the Saints to make a decision on their status. Lofton has a roster bonus of $4.5 million due in 2015, plus another $2.5 million in salary and workout bonuses. If he continues at his current level, Lofton could well be worth a total of $7 million. But his contract was clearly designed for that to be a “prove it” clause. Hawthorne, likewise, is due a $2.5 million roster bonus in 2015, plus $2 million in salary.

I agree that at least one of them, most likely Hawthorne, will be gone by next year. Shaizer or Mosley could be our Vaccaro pick of 2014. I like Lofton, but I wouldn't be totally surprised to see him released next year if we have a decent replacement on the roster, or an attractive option that's a better fit in FA.

At least one of Evans or Grubbs could be in the same situation next offseason as well. If we draft a Guard this year, or draft/sign a Center and keep Lelito at guard, then one of them will probably be a cap casualty as well.

Yeah pretty good stuff there. I think I posted that in the 2015 off-season thread when we were looking at the cap and cuts/FAs.

We are actually setup very well heading into the future even if we don't redo Brees' deal. If we do then we could actually be major players in FA next year instead of picking up 1 or 2 big names and then filling in, though I imagine we save most of that money for Jordan, Galette, and Hicks in 2016 (or extend them next year).
