That's what made Houston. Galveston was all set up to be the "main" city down here and when they got crushed, Houston dug the ship channel and started growing while Galveston rebuilt. Investors were more open to investing in the more protected area of Houston rather than the Galveston area that was just destroyed and basically defenseless.
