it's brand loyalty. it exists in just about everything produced for consumers.

This.

I have an iPhone 5 and a Galaxy S3 (one is work provided)

Both (each?) does what I need it to do and about the same level. I happen to have used the iPhone more and am more familiar.

There is no big difference in either side and I find the "iOS v Android" battle to be silliness for MOST of us. If one likes to mess around more with customization and rooting, etc...android is for you. If you just want to buy a phone, use some apps, etc....whichever you are used to is just fine.

This is pretty much the gist of it. Just look at the console wars for video gaming.

People will defend their positions no matter how retarded they sound.

I agree

I don't understand why people are so up in arms about what phones people use and for what reasons

the same 'loyalty' exists in everything: vehicles, food, clothes, etc.... why doesn't everyone bitch and complain about that?
