To be fair, a lot of people probably lost interest or almost did in BB because of the characters. Don't get me wrong, they're excellent from a acting perspective, but they're all awful, unlikable people. There are likable villains, and perhaps it changed in later seasons, but early on they were drab, miserable folks.

I'll admit that for part of BB, I didn't really enjoy the show. I was obsessed with it and invested in the story, but it wasn't "fun." That changed later, and it in no way detracts from how good the series was.
