Since fear isn't going to expand on this

Yeah, what you saw is what gives PoI the "broader" viewer appeal, and has actually been the key to why it is one of the highest rated shows on TV.. each episode, when seen out of context can feel like a NCIS or CSI type show. (I would argue it much more like The Mentalist than either of those, but I digress)

The beauty of PoI is that there is much much more to the show than it seems, the characters work together perfectly, the chemistry is excellent, and every single episode works together for an overarc'ing story line that fits PERFECTLY together. Like the last episode we saw, (episode 16 of season 3) filled in gaps that had been hinted at since the first episode of the show.. like the writers knew everything about this episode before they even started writing the show to begin with.

The writers have also come out and said they know exactly what the last scene in the show will be, down to the music that will be playing.. the writers also have live blogging with the fans on twitter during each show. Everything about this show is perfect.. and anyone that is missing it, it's basically become "the next LOST" and most people don't even realize it. (I actually enjoy PoI more than I enjoyed LOST, because the writers of PoI give us bread crumbs, but they also give us steak dinners, huge payoffs all around in PoI, multiple times a season)

ETA: One last thing, if this show keeps at it's current trajectory, I'm gonna regret saying this but, I think it will surpass Fringe in the next few seasons...
