I had a SunTrust account and closed it in favor of Capital One 360 (was ING Direct).

If you're looking for pleasant then you might be better off with a credit union or smaller bank. They have a zillion branches in the southeast so you'll find friendly branch folk and not-so-friendly.

Lots of fees just like any other large bank and don't expect any of the above mentioned branch folk, friendly or otherwise, to help you out in that area. Also, that free checking might not be free for long (banks are trying to ease away from this).

IMO, large banks are only advantageous if you are bringing a lot of relationships (loans, investments, insurance, etc). That's when you get treated well. If you're just opening a checking and maybe a savings, expect to be customer 48284zy29kw just like anywhere else.
