I need an expert from 100 yards in. There are shots that I never learned how to hit and its really keeping me from getting better. I am the king of making bogey from inside that range, when I should be giving myself birdie putts
i had the same struggle as you and taught myself. i went about it a very similar way as i learned chipping.
starting around 30 yards my stance is open, and i take a short but strong swing. as i progress further away, up to 80 yards, my stance closes a little and my swing extends a little.
the best way to learn it is through repetition and familiarity with distance.
go to a range or course with a good chipping green that allows longer distance hitting (LSU or santa maria that i know of), or a range with a bunch of markers within 100 yards.
so in short, take a short swing and power your club through. i like being aggressive with those types of shots and focus on landing the ball in a specific area and letting the spin stop it.
eta: also try and devote an entire practice session to it. only bring a putter and club of choice (for me its the 60* wedge). show clubs tend to take away from your scoring clubs.
