I remember one time when my roommate's lab got out years back. It took us a couple days to find him because the people that had him thought he was so good that they let him inside and he slept in the bed and everything. We found him during the day by calling his name out in the neighborhood (southdowns) and he started barking from the backyard where he was. He was back there with a female lab so we he had probably been chasing some arse in the neighborhood.

My chocolate lab would get out in Southdowns alllllllll the time. He would come back on his own a few hours later every single time with a face covered in garbage stench with a giant smile on his face. Always had diarrhea after too
He actually ended up dying a year ago after he got out and swallowed a FULL corncob out of someone's garbage. He was 9 and was a huge lab so he was old and lived a great life. He also died doing his favorite thing in the world, eating our neighbor's garbage.
Miss my man everyday.
ETA:
He was a monster. Like 100 lbs and ripped. He had the bone frame size of a small great dane. He would get out by easily jumping over our 4.5 tall foot fence in the yard without a running start. Just hopped over it like it was nothing. Crazy athletic.
