2014 tiger TEs

we know that LSU will continue to rotate the Blocking and Receiving TEs play by play but do you guys expect guys like Jacory or Desean Smith to develop into more balanced playmaking TEs that can be used on an every down basis? The talent is there.

I think the TEs get more involved because you lose Landry and OBJ. LSU didn't have to go outside of those two to move the ball through the air this year.

I have to agree. We'll see the ball spread out more this year early on until a couple players step up and assume the playmaker role

I'd like to see those guys get targeted more but recent history (+/- last 6 years) shows that we just don't use our TEs much in the passing game. The last TE that was saw significant action in the passing game was Richard Dickson in the 07 season IIRC. Hopefully Cam will change that.

Obviously Dural and Dupre will see a lot of time at WR. It will be interesting to follow Diarse, Leslie, and Peterson battle it out this Spring. I'd like to see Cam line up Desean wide and still plug in one of the blocking TEs like Gordon or Stokes.

And we haven't had a receiving TE of Dickson's caliber since then.

How do you know? We haven't seen them in action. Unless you've seen practices

I'm just saying that DeSean and JaCory are the best receiving TEs we've had since Dickson.

Desean wasnt ready last year. I think he will be this year.
Im not sure if Washington can do what Smith couldnt last year and contribute right away but i think Desean breaks the path for Washington to walk behind. Smith will be productive this season and if Washington isnt ready this season, the next will be a nasty 2 TE set with those two

LSU using the TE? Ill believe it when I see it.

The missing TE has been a direct relation to QB play. Neither JL or JJ could progress through routes well enough to get to the TE. ZM had a lot of issues his first year, plus we didn't really have a decent pass catching TE. This past year, like others said, progression went OBJ-JL or vice versa and one of those was usually open. I think this year with the unproven guys out there, you start to see a lot of TE's splitting out to create some mismatches, plus open up some lanes for Jennings to escape.

good point about impact from loss of WR's, but not sure we have pass catching TE's

Desean smith has great hands and is a good move TE.
Jacory Washington won the skills challenge at the UA game this year. Hes like a huge WR.
If there is anything we have right now, its receiving TEs

TE is usually a QBs safest option. We haven't had a relevant tight end option since the Flynn era.

Young QBs love sure handed TEs as a safety valve.
Should we use them more? YES
Will we? Probably not

What game was it that he went off for like 3 TDs? Was it the National Champ game?
