I was told by my grandfather and uncle who are both farmers, that it's fine to put on St. Augustine. I don't think you would have a problem either way as long as you don't over do it.

It's fine. Just use a light dose.

You'll see it takes a good while to kill the other shite, and the st aug will kind of faulter. but not much and will fill in thick
