There's no rule against this. It's clear that it's happening. Kiffin is the first to do it so blatantly with Janzen Jackson delaying signing and lying so LSU would miss out on him and Darren Myles. Myles would have signed with LSU had he known Jackson was going to UT.
These bullshite "silent commits" are part of the problem. Give us an early signing period and at least some of the shenanigans will be reduced.

I cannot believe that "Hootie sabatoge" theory. 
That's silly to believe Saban would risk losing a recruit to get him to feign interest in another school. Why not just have him remain uncommitted and string LSU out until NSD?
I believe the other theory that Hootie was told by Bama freshmen (Kamara) that if they had to do it over again they wouldn't sign with Bama, and that gave him second thoughts.
