Pick your battles. Repubs can't win this one. They can will the election. That means they will have more leverage to choose even more battles in the future, not the least of which would be senate confirmations like the supreme court.

We have been told this the last 100 battles that have come up on Capitol Hill. It's always a hill not to die on. The message is always to live to fight another day.

When will that "another day" come? If they haven't fought the last 100 battles, what makes you think they will fight in the future? What have they done to show that they will fight if they do win control of the senate?

If that does happen, I guarantee you the new excuse for caving will be "We can't jeopardize the chances of winning the White House in 2016". And if somehow post 2016 the GOP holds the house, senate, and White House, the new excuse will be "We can't risk losing our majority in 2018".

Right now we are on defense. You don't expect your defense to score points. If they do, it's nice, but you don't expect it.

Right now, Obama has been shut down. He got a tax increase early on in this term and that has been it. Expecting anything else (like repealing Obamacare) ain't going to happen. It's not a matter of intestinal fortitude-the math just don't work out.

Now, should they take the Senate, yes they aren't going to rewrite every law and make the US a conservative utopia (is that an oxymoron?). And yes they will backslide on a bunch of issues. But you have some chance of getting some stuff done. It won't be anywhere in the same zip code as perfect. But it will be incrementally better. And (as a conservative) I like incremental change.

Not to mention Supreme Court (and other judicial) nominees.
