UCLA is a better school than LSU, but how relevant is that to college football players from Louisiana? If LSU football doesn't pan out for a kid, an LSU degree and the "fame" of being a former football player will carry a lot of weight in Louisiana. Conversely, if a Louisiana kid goes out to California and doesn't pan out, who's going to bend over backwards to land him a job? UCLA fans aren't nearly as passionate about football as LSU fans, and the economy here is much healthier to go along with a grossly lower cost of living.

What if Young doesn't want to be in Louisiana. I love my state, but it's not for everyone. If he wants to move away try living in Cali, that fine. And it's not like he's blackballed from coming back to Louisiana. Plenty of other people from Louisiana who have gone to school elsewhere come to this state for jobs.

I'm not trying to make it sound like Dupre is one of a million guys that can make a UCLA degree work for them after football; I'm just refuting the notion that a UCLA degree is worth more than an LSU degree if football doesn't work out. In a vacuum, the UCLA degree trumps LSU. For the majority of the kids from Louisiana (lots of small town guys that have never left the state) an LSU degree and allegiance will do wonders for them after football.

John Curtis kids have always been more willing to leave the state it seems. Joe McKnight seemed like less of a spotlight guy than recruits today, and he went to USC without knowing anyone out there I believe. Different strokes for different folks
