Paternity leave is a progressive thing. Large law firms and more progressive companies do it, but acting like it is the norm is dishonest.
All other things equal, men are a better long term investment than women. I'd actually argue that women may be a better short term investment, at least anecdotally. Most women work harder and act more responsibly in their initial terms of employment than men, in my experience (in professional jobs). But, in time more than 50% leave high stress positions, often permanently. This is not an argument I'd want to take in a legal matter, but I think it is ethically sound.
