What do you not agree with?

But we didnt go 7-9 in 2012 because Payton wasnt there. We went 7-9 because of our defense, and Payton isnt a defensive coach.

We werent a 7-9 team because we didnt have Payton there

I disagree with this. I don't think we have the worst defense in NFL history with Payton.

I think that our offense doesn't go 3 and out as often. I think we control the ball more and keep our defense off the field.

The 2012 offense was a disappointment, regardless of the stats. Too many 3 and outs, too many turnovers.

Saints were 1st in TOP this season, 25th in 2012, 3rd in 2011, and 5th in 2010

When it is said "we didn't go 7-9 because we didn't have Payton" it can be said "we didn't go to the playoffs because we had Payton" which I think is crazy

And what makes you think that? Payton does very little at the most with the D. We may not have had as many 3 and outs and it may not have been the worst defense in NFL history, but it most likely still would have been the worst in the NFL that year considering we gave up 1,000 yards more than the 31st ranked D, the NY Giants. And, like i said, that could have made a diff a game. So we would have been, at best, a .500 team with Payton in 2012.

And you do realize that a teams TOP isnt just an offensive stat? Maybe the reason why our TOP in 2012 was so uncharacteristically bad was because our D couldnt stop anyone?? Which kept our O off the field.

This year, we were the 11th best team in regards to 3 and outs. We had 38 three and out drives on 181 offense possessions this year. Last year, without Payton, we were 17th. We had 43 three and out drives on 190 offensive possessions last year. Thats only 5 more than the year with Payton. And over a 16 game schedule thats about 1 less 3 and out drives every 3 games.

And as far as turnovers are concerned, this past year with Payton we threw 12 INTs and lost 7 fumbles. The 2012 season without Payton we threw 19 INTs and lost 5 fumbles. Defensively this past year with Payton we had 7 INTs and recovered 7 fumbles. The year without Payton in 2012 we had 15 INTs and recovered 11 fumbles. So in 2013, with Payton, we were even in turnover margin. In 2012 without Payton we were +2 in the turnover margin.

Those 2 stats show that 3 and outs and turnover margin had nothing to do with the drastic change in TOP stat. Hell, when you take into account the 3 and out drives and turnover margin from both 2012 and 2013, we actually had the ball 7 more times in the year without Payton.

But our TOP was drastically worse in 2012, the year without Payton. And it wasnt because of our offense going 3 and out and turnover ratio (see above) it was because our D couldnt stop anyone at all.
